Children And Toothpaste. How much toothpaste should kids use?

Toothpaste is important for children to use because if a little spot of decay gets started, the fluoride in toothpaste can help re-mineralize the spot.  This will hopefully prevent the decay from progressing further.
The problem is young children usually do not do a good job of rinsing with water or spitting out the toothpaste.  So they end up swallowing some of the it.  If children consume too much fluoride (from drinking water andtoothpaste) it can cause white spots on their permanent teeth.
So for children up to the age of  9, I recommend using just a pea sized amount of toothpaste on their toothbrush, and rinsing with water after brushing.
Now I had 4 kids, and what we want them to do isn’t always what they do.  But we can try 🙂
